In 1982 The Quinoa Corporation brought the first 50 lb bag of this unknown crop into the United States, with the intention of sharing with the natural foods industry. Since that time, word of this this amazing food has spread globally.

Ancient in its origins, Quinoa actually has been a food staple for more than 5,000 years, and is known with great respect as the "Mother Grain". It was one of  the three staple foods, along with corn and potatoes, of the Inca civilization, and considered sacred. Quinoa ("Keen-Wa") is a sesame-seed-sized kernel that has been cultivated in the Andes Mountains for thousands of years. Currently Peru and Bolivia maintain seed banks with 1,800 types of quinoa.
